President Kagame Concludes Strategic Visit to Cairo, Strengthening Rwanda-Egypt Ties
CAIRO, Egypt – President Paul Kagame of Rwanda concluded a highly productive working visit to Cairo on Wednesday, following a series of high-level meetings with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and addressing continental issues.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday (23/09/2025), underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthen their partnership across key sectors, including trade, investment, defense, and diplomacy.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
A central outcome of the discussions was the mutual desire to enhance economic ties. Both leaders emphasized the need to increase trade volumes and encourage investments, with particular focus on sectors where both countries hold strategic advantages.
"President El-Sisi and I discussed how to increase trade and investment between Rwanda and Egypt," President Kagame stated following the meeting. "There are significant opportunities in areas such as agriculture, manufacturing, and ICT that we are keen to explore for mutual benefit."
Egypt, with its established industrial base and geographic position as a gateway to North Africa and the Middle East, presents a valuable market and partner for Rwanda, which is rapidly advancing as a hub for technology and innovation in East Africa.
Focus on Regional Security and Stability
The two heads of state also held extensive talks on pressing regional security challenges. The situations in the Great Lakes Region, the Horn of Africa, and the ongoing conflict in Gaza were high on the agenda. Both leaders affirmed the importance of peaceful resolutions to conflicts and the need for African-led solutions to continental problems.
The discussions also covered broader cooperation within international forums, highlighting the alignment of Rwanda and Egypt on many pan-African issues.
Signing of Memoranda of Understanding
The diplomatic engagement was solidified with the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). While the full details are yet to be disclosed, these agreements are understood to cover areas of mutual interest such as:
President Kagame was accompanied by a delegation of senior Rwandan officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vincent Biruta, and the Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Albert Murasira, indicating the comprehensive nature of the discussions.
President El-Sisi hosted an official dinner in honor of President Kagame and his delegation, further symbolizing the warm and cordial relations between the two nations.
This visit marks a significant step in fortifying the Rwanda-Egypt partnership, setting a clear roadmap for increased collaboration that is expected to yield tangible benefits for the citizens of both countries and contribute to stability in their respective regions.
